Question. During installation of ADinf32, in the "Choose destination location" dialog, pressing the "Browse" button results in the following error: "Mprexe This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.". The error persists on different machines under Windows'98. Then, the install process fails. However, installation to the default folder completes successfully.
Answer.

This problem is caused by a known bug in the Microsoft Client for Novell Netware supplied with Windows'98.

Possible solutions.

  1. There is a special patch for Windows'98 that fixes this bug. More information on this problem and the patch are available at: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q192/2/49.asp

  2. To work around this problem, you can also try the following:

    1. Don't press the "Browse" button and enter the installation folder manually;
    2. Make sure that you're not logged in your Novell NetWare when you attempt the installation. Or, at least, make sure that no network drives are connected to your system;
    3. Instead of the Microsoft Client for Novell Netware, use the client software provided by Novell.
